NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course

Course Goal

To teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol

safely.


Course Lessons

1. Pistol Knowledge and Safe Handling

2. Ammunition Knowledge and Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting

3. Firing the First Shots

4. Two-handed and One-handed Standing Shooting Positions

5. Pistol Sports and Activities

Additional content will include:

• proper cleaning and storage of pistols

• pistol selection (based on student requirements)

• other pertinent subjects based upon student questions


Course Length

This is a full day course – approximately 8 hours.

(This includes all classroom and range time. Depending upon the number of students and their abilities, the course length may vary.)

The fee for this course is $100


Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for taking this course. Just arrive with an open mind and a positive attitude, ready to learn.


Course Completion

There is a short written test on the lesson material at the end of the course. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a course certificate.

Participants may also receive constructive suggestions and coaching during the live fire exercises.


Other Information and common questions:

Who may take this course? - Any person who is legally eligible to possess a pistol. You must not have Felony conviction record, but do not need a License to carry a handgun to attend the class.


What is the level of the course? – The course is perfect for the beginner or new pistol owner. This is an entry-level pistol course with very little shooting requirements.


This is a good class to take if you desire to get your Concealed Carry permit (CCH) from a state that offers a non-resident permit.

(For those that have not acquired a pistol yet, all major varieties will be covered, as will many safe uses and activities.)


Do I need to own a pistol to take this course? – No. Pistols will be provided.

(If you do own a pistol that you would like to bring to the course, please feel free to do so. If you bring your own gun make sure it is unloaded and in a case. To bring it to the range, you must possess an Indiana License to Carry a Handgun! Bring the correct ammo for your gun however please remember, no live ammo is allowed in the classroom so you are requested to leave your ammo in your vehicle.)


Do I need to bring eye and ear protection to this course? – Yes.


Does this course have a textbook? - Yes.

The handbook The Basics of Pistol Shooting will be provided to each student.

Defensive Carry Pistol

Two day class, Saturday 9 am to 5 pm & Sunday 1pm to 9pm (Limited to 5 students)

Class Dates: May 15 & 16, October 2 & 3


Course Description

This class is for the shooter who is going to carry a pistol for personal protection. At the completion of this course, you will be better prepared to defend yourself and family with a pistol from your person or while in your home. You should have a working knowledge of the handgun before this class. The NRA Basic Pistol class is not a prerequisite, but I would highly recommend it if you are new to handling a pistol. This class has a high round count, and the student should be ready to be physically active for the entire class.

Legal issues related to the use of the firearm

Safe use of the firearm in personal protection

Malfunction clearing

Carrying and deployment of the pistol

Shot placement on the human body for maximum effectiveness

Course Cost

The fee for this course is $250


Other Information

Bring your own defensive pistol (38 spl/9mm or larger caliber), a quality carry holster (no nylon holster that close when empty), five magazines or speed loaders, double magazine belt holder, flashlight, great attitude and 500 rounds of factory ammo.

Defensive Rifle

Course Description

This class is for those who have purchased a rifle want to know how it works and how to deploy it for personal protection.  This class has a high round count, and the student should be ready to be physically active for the entire class. Shooter Safety is of high importance with this firearm, and attention to detail is very important. The student must be prepared to adhere to a strict muzzle disciple/control regiment.

Rifle break down instruction and common malfunction discussion

Legal issues related to the use of the firearm

Safe use of the firearm in personal protection

Carrying and deployment of the rifle

Shot placement on the human body for maximum effectiveness

Use of the mounted light with low light fire

Shooting positions with cover

Moving and shooting

Search techniques for your residence

Low light firearms use

Slings and their limitations

Bring your own magazine fed rifle (AR-15, AK-47, Mini 14, Ruger Carbine, etc…), five magazines, magazine belt pouch, sling, weapon mounted light is a good idea, cleaning kit, great attitude and 600 rounds of factory ammo.

Shotgun Home Defense

Course Description

This class is for those who have purchased a shotgun want to know how it works and how to deploy it for personal protection in the home.  This class has a high round count, and the student should be ready to be physically active for the entire class.

Firearms Safety including home storage

Legal issues related to the use of the firearm

Safe use of the firearm in personal protection

Malfunction clearing

Ammunition maintenance for the shotgun

Shot placement on the human body for maximum effectiveness

Use of the weapons mounted flashlight

Shooting positions with cover

Search techniques for your residence

Shotgun ammunition characteristics and choice


Course Cost

The fee of this course is $150


Other Information

Bring your own pump action or semi-auto shotgun; belt pouch to load ammo from, sling, and a weapon-mounted light is a good idea (lighting products will be available at the class), cleaning kit, great attitude and 200 rounds bird shot, 25 slugs, 25 buckshot, all factory ammo.
